Rutgers University CCMI Tropical Marine Conservation Internship
PROGRAMME: Tropical Marine Conservation Internship (4 credits)
PROGRAMME DATES: 26th May - 15th June 2017
This programme aims to enhance student training in field research, increase the interest in coral reef science and conservation, and to provide useful data to assist CCMI in our long-term ecosystem research. Participants learn about tropical marine ecology and conservation through a combination of fieldwork and lectures. Students are engaged in data collection as part of 10+ years of active research by CCMI at one of the world's most beautiful coral reef systems surrounding Little Cayman and the Bloody Bay Marine Park. Interns also help CCMI scientists with our invasive lionfish and coral nursery projects.
Participants will work in teams to develop directed independent field research proects. These projects are developed into joint research posters that may be published or presented at a national or international conference. One of the 2015 groups won 1st place at the AGU Virtual Poster Showcase - an amazing achievement to include on their CVs and grad school applications!
Applications should be received no later than March 1st, but early registration is preferred. Registration is limited to 24 participants per session.
Scuba divers are encouraged to apply, but non-certified participants are also accepted.
Course credit is offered through the Rutgers University Institute of Marine & Coastal Sciences and the Rutgers Study Abroad programme. Credit is transferable. All registration requirements and payment for this course must be processed through Rutgers Study Abroad programme.
More information on the course can be found at the Rutgers Study Abroad website here. Once registered, please see the applications and registration section at the bottom of this page.

Many U.S. and international carriers fly to Grand Cayman while Cayman Airways operates several short-hop flights between Grand Cayman & Little Cayman daily.
