CCMI Response to Proposed Amendments to the Cayman Islands National Conservation Act
CCMI has officially responded to the Government of the Cayman Islands Public Consultation on proposed changes in the National Conservation Act (NCA), expressing our support for Effective Sustainable Governance & Commitment to the Marine Environment.
In this statement we highlight our concerns about the proposed changes to the NCA, particularly the move away from the environmental impact assessment process and the reduction of consultation and oversight from respected professionals in the decision-making and governance process.
CCMI believes that the proposed changes to the NCA could have catastrophic and destructive implications for the environment and they represent a step backwards for sustainable development and data-driven decision making in the Cayman Islands.
The public consultation period for the NCA amendments will end at 11.59pm on Monday 27 January 2025. Anyone interested in providing feedback on the Amendment Bill can submit their response directly to the Ministry at [email protected].
