Cayman Bogue Swim 2021

On Saturday, 18th September 2021, starting at 8am local time, 16 incredible swimmers began a unique challenge – swimming the five-mile distance from the West End Point in Cayman Brac to Point Of Sand in Little Cayman across the channel known as ‘The Bogue’. This is one of the deepest channels in the Caribbean at 4000 ft deep. Swimming conditions were challenging with the winds, currents, and swells picking up as the morning went on, but the swimmers persevered, arriving to their destination in Little Cayman several hours later.

Swimmers ranging in age from 13 to over 60 took part in the inagural Cayman Bogue Swim 2021, one that organisers hope to turn into an annual event.

The Cayman Bogue Swim 2021 was very eager to support a local environmental charity. Through sponsorship and private fundraising efforts by the participants, they raised more than US $51,000 for CCMI, with 50% of that amount going to CCMI’s Cayman Bogue Swim Scholarship Fund. The scholarships will be awarded to local students, allowing them opportunities to learn about and experience first hand the beauty and diversity of coral reefs alongside the marine science experts of CCMI.

The Cayman Bogue Swim 2021 was graciously sponsored by Williams2 Real Estate, Rawlinson & Hunter, and African Impact.
