YELC 2019 Begins
The 2019 Young Environmentalist Leadership Course (YELC) has officially begun! This year CCMI is proud to be working alongside Go Pro Diving Cayman, to certify 8 local, young, and passionate Caymanians in their PADI Open Water, PADI Advanced, and PADI Rescue courses. As in previous years, these students will also receive skills training in underwater field research methods, in resume building and interviews, and networking. This year, our 8 new YELC students are joining the programme from the Hope Academy, John Gray High School (JGHS), the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC), and the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI). This is the first year our YELC programme has taken on an equal number of young men and young women, and it is the first year we have a participant from the Hope Academy. 2019 is also the first year that the programme has taken on a successful YELC alumnus to continue in their dive education up to their PADI Divemaster certification, Ms. Martina Burton (YELC 2018) who is currently pursuing her Associates Degree in Environmental Science from UCCI. These students will be working hard over the next 6 months to attain their scuba certifications and become better environmental stewards.
