The Coral Fund launched by CCMI Royal Patron, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex
On 21st February 2023, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex visited the Central Caribbean Marine Institute’s (CCMI) Little Cayman Research Centre and launched CCMI’s Coral Fund as part of a visit to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Royal Patronage for the organisation.
The Coral Fund is a new capital campaign to raise USD $2.9 million over the next 2-3 years to support the building of a new facility in Little Cayman. This expansion project will enable CCMI to increase accommodations and capacity to facilitate research and education groups simultaneously. In doing so, we will double our education programme, hosting students year-round, increasing from 400 students per annum to 800 students per annum. We will then also double our capacity to support research. The current Little Cayman facility will be redeveloped as a ‘working’ space, significantly increasing our lab, office, and study space capacity.
CCMI is committed to:
- growing our local education and scholarship programmes
- providing more international programming, including visiting researchers and education programmes
- facilitating increased collaborations
- supporting our growing in-house research programmes
We invite you to join us in building this facility as part of a hopeful future for coral reefs. Learn more about The Coral Fund HERE.
