Lionfish Tagging Reveals Interesting Results

December 27, 2017

Initial results from the first round of lionfish tagging have proved very interesting. Tagged fish exhibited strong site fidelity, however some fish made regular vertical movements to depths beyond recreational diving limits. There also appears to be a higher rate of predation by native predators than previously thought. As researchers begin the second round of tagging in December and January, they are encouraging the community to become involved by publishing a webpage with information on the movement ecology and mortality/predation rates of each fish. Look out for this page to go live by February!
